2007 Fantasy Football – Latest update on injuries

Here are some more tidbits relating to football injuries:
ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports the Denver Broncos appear to have dodged a potentially serious setback, with a Sunday examination of starting RB Travis Henry’s left knee indicating no significant structural damage. Henry left Saturday night’s preseason game at Dallas in the second quarter with the knee injury. HC Mike Shanahan said after the game that the early assessment was that Henry suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament, and a subsequent MRI exam verified that. It is not known how long Henry, who is in his first season with the Broncos, will be sidelined. But the Broncos, who have had a different leading rusher in each of the past four seasons, and in five of the last six years, likely will err on the side of caution. The Broncos feel that Henry will register big numbers running behind a blocking scheme that really fits his skills-set well.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Rams WR/KR/PR Dante Hall (hamstring) made his………
preseason debut against the Chargers last night. He returned one punt for 12 yards and one kickoff for 32 yards in his Rams debut. However, most of Hall’s kickoff return was negated by a holding penalty. Starting ORG Richie Incognito (ankle) suffered an ankle injury in the first half, but the injury was not thought to be serious. WR Drew Bennett (bruised ribs) left with bruised ribs after a 34-yard reception in the second half. Sitting out the game were QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (ribs), WR Dane Looker (back), LB Tim McGarigle (hamstring), OT Todd Steussie (neck), and WR Dominique Thompson (ribs).
The Dallas Morning News reports Cowboys starting RB Julius Jones doesn’t get much time inside the 20, but in training camp practices he’s getting some repetitions. Last season, the Cowboys took Jones out on third downs and inside the 20 for RB Marion Barber. On Saturday, Jones was on the field inside the 20 and scored from the 4 to give Dallas a 14-0 lead. “It’s kind of a reward,” Jones said. “When you get the ball down the field and you can punch it in, it is good.” Dallas rushed for 190 yards led by RB Tyson Thompson’s 75 yards on 16 carries. Barber rushed 11 times for 57 yards and Jones finished with nine carries for 31 yards.
The Washington Post reports Redskins QB Jason Campbell, dropped by an illegal and direct shot to the outside of his left knee from the blindside by DE Brett Keisel, was soon walking on his own with what is being called a bruise. Team doctors are confident Campbell’s injury is not severe, HC Joe Gibbs said, and Campbell said he will undergo an MRI exam today to ensure there is no tendon or ligament damage. “It was a scary moment,” said Campbell, whose practice status will be reevaluated on a daily basis.
The Star Ledger reports while the Giants’ healthy players were practicing on one of the UAlbany fields early last week, WR Plaxico Burress was on another, doing some light jogging and other drills to rehab his sprained right ankle. “I think his milk is going bad,” one player overheard one of the team’s veterans say. The player, who requested anonymity because he didn’t want to publicly question his teammate, said the joke was a reference to Burress’ possibly “milking” the injury he suffered on Aug. 2 so he could miss more than two weeks of training camp. When told about the joke on Friday, Burress briefly raised his eyebrows then said calmly, “It’s fine. But when I get back on the football field, when I get back out there and back to being No. 17 and making plays, everybody’s going to shut up and get in line.” Burress continued later by saying, “You think I’m not out there because I don’t want to? That would be crazy to think that. Everybody’s entitled to their opinion. If they think that, then good for them. But when it comes time to strap it up on Sunday, I’ll be one of the best players on the field.” Burress won’t strap it up on this Sunday. He’ll be sidelined tonight when the Giants visit the Ravens in their second preseason game. He expects to return to practice on Tuesday in preparation for this weekend’s game against the Jets in which the starters will probably play into the third quarter. HC Tom Coughlin undoubtedly will be relieved to have QB Eli Manning’s top target on the field, but the coach clearly wanted Burress back a lot sooner. “He needs to obviously go full speed so we can get the quarterback and him hooked up,” Coughlin said last week.
