Don’t have the time to sift through all the headlines. Here some tidbits for you:
Terrell Owens returned to practice Tuesday after missing two days because of back spasms. Coach Wade Phillips hadn’t ruled out T.O. playing in the preseason opener. So it appears that after being on the field for the team’s final full workout in the Alamodome, the receiver could start Thursday night against Indianapolis.
The Brady Quinn saga is now officially over. The rookie quarterback has agreed to terms on a five-year deal with the Cleveland Browns, FOXSports.com has learned. The deal is worth $20.2 million, and could reach a total value of $30 million with escalators. The contract contains $7.75 million in guaranteed money. The deal, which was agreed to Tuesday morning, has not yet been signed, but Quinn was en route to Cleveland to join his teammates on Tuesday.
The Florida Times-Union reports the Jaguars announced Tuesday that WR Ernest Wilford did not suffer a serious injury to his left knee when he went down after catching a pass from David Garrard in practice. The Jaguars did not announce what the injury is or how quickly he’ll return. Wilford fell awkwardly after catching the ball and appeared to be writhing in pain while lying on his back and had to be helped from the field by two members of the training staff and couldn’t put any weight on it. Wilford and WR Dennis Northcutt have been the two starting receivers. WR Reggie Williams was listed as the third-team receiver.
The Star Tribune reports Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (hip) was on the field for the morning practice Tuesday but did not take part. Peterson suffered a hip pointer last week, and HC Brad Childress said the team doesn’t want to push the rookie.
The San Diego Union Tribune reports the Chargers intend to get TE Antonio Gates more involved in the offense.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons HC Bobby Petrino revealed Monday that four-time Pro Bowl TE Alge Crumpler (knee surgery) will be out at least a week after suffering a setback in his return from offseason arthroscopic knee surgery. Crumpler received an outside medical opinion last Friday and was advised to stop all football-related activity. Crumpler joins two other offensive threats, RB Warrick Dunn (back surgery) and QB Michael Vick (temporary league banishment), on the inactive shelf.
