2007 Fantasy Football – QB Pre-Season Rankings
by Chris Mooney
Here are my initial pre-season QB rankings:
- Peyton Manning – This is a no brainer.
- Drew Brees – Loaded with many weapons.
- Carson Palmer – No Henry for beginning of season, but will still air it out.
- Tom Brady – Revived Randy Moss and Donte Stallworth will give Brady his best fantasy year to date.
- Marc Bulger – Still a potent offense. May depend more on Stephen Jackson, though. Holt’s knees may not be 100%.
- Jon Kitna – Yes, Jon Kitna. Williams/Johnson combo will be tough. They will be down often and he will be forced to throw. Could be high in INT’s as well.
- Phillip Rivers – They talk about LT being used more in the passing game. Gates will be more involved and look out for Vincent Jackson. Jackson is definately a breakout candidate. With Eric Parker out, others will have to step up.
- Tony Romo – Still a little erratic for me, but seems to click with T.O. Keep an eye on knee injury to Glenn.
- Matt Hasselback – Good combo here in Branch and DJ Hackett. Hackett is another breakout candidate.
- Jay Cutler – I think he’ll put up good fantasy numbers here. Javon Walker is a top tier WR.
- Donovan McNabb – Hate ranking him so low, but until he proves the knee is healthy, need to temper expectations. Reggie Brown is the #1 guy now and I’m not sure he’ll consistently play like one.
- Rex Grossman – I like Grossman here. He’s got some good weapons in Muhammed, Berrian.
- Matt Leinert – Throwing to one of the best tandems in the league in Fitzgerald and Boldin, but there is talk the Cards will emphasize the run more with Edgerrin James.
- J.P Losman – Seems hit or miss each week, but has good upside and Lee Evans is no fluke.
- Jake Delhomme – Lack of running game hurts, but Steve Smith helps. Will Drew Carter step up as a bonafide #2?
the rest……Eli Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Vince Young, Brett Favre, Chad Pennington
QB MVP – Peyton Manning – should lead all QB’s in scoring…again
QB Value Pick – Phillip Rivers – Other than Peyton Manning, most QB’s will go in the middle rounds. Let them take all the others ranked ahead of Rivers. You may be able to get him late, and he’ll definately round out your team as you’ve now hopefully loaded up on RB’s and WR’s.
QB Bust Pick – Vince Young – Yeah he had some heroic games last year, but he has no one to throw to. Can he run?? Yes. But if you’re relying on just his running game, you’re in trouble. Can you say Mike Vick Part II?

This is the year that Ben Rothlisberger takes the step to the next leve and becomes MVP of the league.

He’s needs some weapons around him. Hines Ward is not enough and can Willie Parker stay healthy???
