2007 Fantasy Football - Week 16 Injury Updates
by Chris Mooney
Here some updates for the upcoming Week 16 games:
Quarterbacks
Cowboy QB Tony Romo (thumb) went through a full practice on Thursday for the second straight day and looks on track to start on Saturday at Carolina. Backup Brad Johnson would start if Romo can’t play.
Jet QB Kellen Clemens (ribs/shoulder) was limited and did not throw any passes in practice Wednesday, and Chad Pennington is expected to start on Sunday against the Titans, the New York Daily News reported.
Raven QB Kyle Boller (concussion) will not play on Sunday, so rookie Troy Smith will make his first NFL start against Seattle.
Steeler QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) will start tonight at St. Louis.
Ram QB Marc Bulger (concussion) will start tonight against Pittsburgh.
Charger QB Philip Rivers (knee) is expected to start on Monday night against Denver.
Texan QB Matt Schaub (shoulder) did not practice Wednesday and is not expected to be active on Sunday, even as a backup, the Houston Chronicle reported. QB Sage Rosenfels will start against the Colts.
49er QB Shaun Hill will start again on Sunday for QB Trent Dilfer (concussion).
Redskin QB Jason Campbell (knee) is out again for Week Sixteen, so QB Todd Collins will start against Minnesota on Sunday night.
Bear QB Kyle Orton is expected to continue as the starter for Rex Grossman (knee).
Panther QB Matt Moore is expected to continue as the starter this week against Dallas for QB Vinny Testaverde.
Raider rookie QB JaMarcus Russell could make his first NFL start Sunday against Jacksonville, according to coach Lane Kiffin. If he doesn’t start, Josh McCown would start and Russell would come in at some point and play the rest of the way, not just for a few series, Kiffin said. QB Daunte Culpepper (quad) is not expected to play.
Running Backs
Raider RB Justin Fargas (knee) is out for the season. RBs Dominic Rhodes and LaMont Jordan will compete for the starting job and playing time in practice this week, but Rhodes would seem to have the edge to start based on his activity last week (seven carries while Jordan was de-activated) and recent comments of praise by coach Lane Kiffin.
Saint RB Reggie Bush (knee) did not practice on Thursday but is still considered questionable and has not been ruled out for Sunday’s game, coach Sean Payton said. Bush practiced on a limited basis Wednesday and said he could come down to a game-time decision. “My decision is based on coming back completely healthy and not pushing it and coming back at the right time,” Bush said, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. “It’s going to be a team decision, not just mine.” The Saints are 2-0 with RB Aaron Steckeras the starter, with Stecker running for 195 yards and 2 TD in those two wins.
Chief RB Larry Johnson (foot) did not practice Thursday and is not expected to play on Sunday after suffering a setback in practice Wedneday, according to the Kansas City Star. Johnson took on a heavier workload in practice Wednesday, sharing the first-team snaps with RB Kolby Smith. But about halfway through practice, Johnson headed for the sideline and spoke with one of the trainers, careful not to put weight on the injured foot, then left the practice field and didn’t return. Smith will continue as the starter.
Titan RB LenDale White (knee) missed practice Wednesday but is expected to be able to play on Sunday, coach Jeff Fisher said.
Texan RB Ron Dayne (ankle) did not participate in practice Wednesday and is considered day-to-day but will likely start on Sunday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Rookie Darius Walker would start if Dayne is out.
Bengal RB Rudi Johnson (hamstring) missed practice again Thursday with a tight hamstring and is questionable for Sunday’s game. RB Kenny Watson would start for him.
Dolphin RB Jesse Chatman (ankle) practiced with the first team again Thursday and is expected to start on Sunday. If he has a setback, RB Sam Gado would continue as the starter with rookie Lorenzo Booker playing a situational role.
Eagle RB Brian Westbrook (knee) missed practice Wednesday but is expected to start on Sunday. Backup RB Correll Buckhalter (concussion) is expected to be able to play.
49er RB Frank Gore (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday but is expected to start on Sunday.
Charger RB Michael Turner (shoulder) could be limited in practice this week, and his status for Monday’s game is uncertain.
Ram RB Brian Leonard (head) practiced fully on Wednesday but is still questionable for Thursday’s game. RB Travis Minor (ankle) will not play.
Packer FB Korey Hall (leg) is likely to miss the last two games of the regular season.
Receivers
Ram WR Torry Holt (groin) will start tonight against the Steelers.
Steeler WR Nate Washington (ankle) was limited in practice again Wednesday but is expected to be able to play tonight as the #3 receiver.
Giant TE Jeremy Shockey (leg) is out for the season. Rookie TE Kevin Boss will take over as the starter.
Jet WR Laveranues Coles (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday and his status for Sunday’s game is uncertain, though he said he will try to play.
WR Jerricho Cotchery (finger) is expected to play.
Cardinal WRs Anquan Boldin (toe) and Larry Fitzgerald (groin) were both limited in practice again Thursday and are still considered day-to-day but both are expected to be able to play Sunday against Atlanta.
Colt WR Marvin Harrison (knee) is not expected to play on Sunday, the Indianapolis Star reported. WR Anthony Gonzalez continues to start for him.
Seahawk WR D.J. Hackett (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday and is not expected to play on Sunday against Baltimore, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.
Bengal WR Chris Henry (ankle) returned to practice Thursday after missing Wednesday and is expected to play in Sunday’s game.
Viking WR Sidney Rice (ankle) missed practice again Thursday and is doubtful for Sunday’s game. WR Troy Williamson could fill in for him.
Cowboy WR Terry Glenn (knee) practiced in a limited capacity again Thursday, and the team is still hopeful that he can play on Saturday.
Eagle TE L.J. Smith (knee/ribs) missed practice Wednesday and is not expected to play on Sunday. TE Matt Schobel (concussion) has a chance to play. If not, rookie Brent Celek would get the start.
Patriot TE Ben Watson (ankle) was limited in practice Wednesday and his status for Sunday’s game against Miami is uncertain.
Raven TE Todd Heap (hamstring) was limited in practice Wednesday and is questionable again this week.
Bronco WR Brandon Stokley (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday and is questionable again this week.
Saint TE Eric Johnson (groin) was limited in practice Wednesday and is questionable this week.
Lion WR Roy Williams (knee) is out for the season. WR Shaun McDonald continues as the starter.
Packer TE Bubba Franks (knee) is uncertain again for this week.
Titan backup WR Brandon Jones (groin) is out for the season.
Bronco TE Daniel Graham (ankle) missed practice Wednesday and is questionable for Monday’s game. Tony Scheffler would start for him.
