Kevin Jones to go on PUP Listby Chris Mooney

Mlive.com reports according to a source close to the situation, the surgeon who performed the Lisfranc surgery on the left foot of Detroit Lions RB Kevin Jones (foot) has agreed with Lions trainers that Jones should start the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Dr. Richard Anderson re-examined Jones this afternoon and then discussed the situation with Lions officials. Because the Lions have a bye week in the sixth week of the season, Jones will only miss five games. Jones will be eligible to return on Oct. 21 in the home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The medical report on Jones is that his foot is almost completely recovered, but team officials want to err on the side of caution and make sure he’s in the best possible football condition before he returns to the field. Again, according to a source close to the situation, Jones is expected to return without losing any of his original speed or running ability.

The Sun Herald reports New Orleans Saints starting WR Marques Colston (knee) and WR Devery Henderson (hamstring) will play in tonight’s preseason finale. Injuries kept both players out the lineup for a couple of preseason games and Payton wants the two to at least sniff the field.

The Sun Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins GM Randy Mueller said Wednesday that the team is pleased with WR Chris Chambers and want him to stay. Mueller was responding to an NFL Network story Tuesday suggesting that Chambers was on the trading block. “He is fine. We’re happy to have Chris Chambers,” Mueller said in an interview. “Obviously, he is a good player, and we hope that he is here a long time.” Chambers, who was a Pro Bowl pick in 2005 with 82 catches (1,118 yards) with 11 touchdowns, dropped off to 59 catches (677 yards) with four touchdowns last season. Any trade of Chambers would involve a team inheriting a salary cap number of more than $7 million. “This is the time of year when all kind of crazy things are explored by a lot of teams,” Mueller said. “We hear these things, not only with Chris, but many more of our players. It is not uncommon for other teams to call us and inquire about our players or for us to inquire about other teams’ players, even though we know that there is a 99 percent chance that they never happen.”
